Who Are We?

IMG 5795

Services from July.jpgWe are a family church filled with ordinary people trying our best to follow Jesus.

We do our best to be a serving, loving, hospitable, inclusive, praying and worshipping community.

We extend a warm welcome to everyone, wherever they are on their journey of faith and whatever questions they may have.

Although we have a wonderful church building we like to think of ourselves as a church without walls; a group of people living life with God, seeking to serve our local and wider communities in any way we can.

We are blessed to live and serve in such a beautiful part of the world and we extend an invitation to you to come and join us.

Why are we here?

Our mission statement  is “Knowing Jesus Christ and making Him known.”

This takes us to some challenging and wonderful places and we are always delighted when anyone joins us on that journey.

Together we attempt to make Jesus known through teaching, preaching, worship, and prayer as well as social events, fun and laughter.  We also think that it’s equally important to make Jesus known through the way we live our lives and so we encourage each other to live the good news the best we can in and out of church.

We seek to share the gospel in word and in deed and to overcome the barriers that separate us from each other and from the love of God.

Baptism and Membership

Downton Baptist Church - River BaptismRiver Baptism - Downton Baptist Church

Everyone is welcome to come and join in our services and events, and become part of our church community. We will gladly baptise those who accept Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Saviour.

These services are joyful times of celebration and reflection on the work of God in our lives. Children get front row seats at the edge of the pool and all others gather around to support those being baptised.

We also have membership for those who would like to become a formal part of Downton Baptist Church, making a covenant with one another and God, and attending the quarterly meetings that direct the life of the church. As a Baptist church we believe that these Church Meetings are central to our Christian life together and that God speaks to His church as we come together to seek His guidance. Please contact Philip Rhoades or Katy Ullyatt if you are interested in membership.

Planning your Visit

A Warm Hello to Downton Baptist Church

The following information is specifically for those planning a visit, so that you know, beforehand, what to expect on a Sunday morning.

Where and When?

We meet at our Church in South Lane, Downton, for our Sunday Service starting at 10.30 am. When you arrive, you should be greeted by someone on our Welcome Team and Duty Stewards.

We serve tea, coffee and biscuits following our service.. It is a great way to meet people, or simply take time to find your bearings.

Accessibility: There is wheelchair access, and a sound loop for anyone who needs it. Please let one of the Welcome Team know on your arrival and they will help you to get set up. There is a disabled toilets.

Our Service

The Sunday Morning Worship service begins at 10.30 am with a warm welcome.
During the service there will be a time of sung worship, led by our band.  There will then follow readings from the bible and a talk about what we have heard.  There will be times of prayer.
Please ask if this is new for you and would like some support.

We are pleased to say we have a programme for our young people and everyone is welcome.

Children stay with their parent or grown-up at the start of the service for the welcome, songs and notices. We really value worshipping God all together as a family. At an appropriate moment,  the young people will be asked to go their various groups.  You will need to go with your children to their groups and register them as part of our child safety policy.

Please pick your children up as soon as the service finishes.
